What is Embryo Creation?
Embryo creation is the process of fertilizing eggs with sperm outside the body in a controlled laboratory environment. This process results in the formation of embryos, which are then cultured and monitored for quality before being selected for transfer to the uterus.

The Embryo Creation Process:
1. Ovarian Stimulation:
-
The process begins with ovarian stimulation, where medications are administered to encourage the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. This step increases the number of eggs available for fertilization.
2. Egg Retrieval:
-
Once the eggs are mature, a minor surgical procedure called egg retrieval is performed. Under ultrasound guidance, a needle is used to collect the eggs from the ovarian follicles.
3. Sperm Collection:
-
A sperm sample is collected from the male partner or a sperm donor. The sample is then processed to select the healthiest and most motile sperm for fertilization.
4. Fertilization:
-
The retrieved eggs and selected sperm are combined in the laboratory. There are two primary methods of fertilization:
-
Conventional IVF: Eggs and sperm are placed together in a petri dish to allow natural fertilization.
-
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): A single sperm is directly injected into each egg to assist fertilization, often used in cases of male factor infertility.
5. Embryo Culture:
-
Fertilized eggs, now called embryos, are cultured in a specialized incubator for several days. Our embryologists closely monitor their development, assessing factors such as cell division and morphology to determine the quality of each embryo.
6. Embryo Selection:
-
On the third or fifth day after fertilization, the healthiest embryos are selected for transfer or freezing. Advanced techniques like Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) can be used to screen embryos for genetic abnormalities, ensuring the selection of the most viable embryos.
7. Embryo Transfer:
-
The selected embryos are transferred to the uterus through a simple and painless procedure. This step is timed to coincide with the optimal phase of the recipient’s menstrual cycle to maximize the chances of implantation.
8. Cryopreservation:
-
Any high-quality embryos that are not transferred can be frozen and stored for future use. This process, known as cryopreservation, allows for additional embryo transfer attempts without the need for another ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval cycle.
